By bicycle through Spain and France
In April 1984, I took my bicycle down to the south of Spain on the train and then cycled right across Spain and France back to England. The journey was about 1000 kilometers and it took me ten days.
Cycling through Spain was really exciting but hard work because of all the mountain roads. Also, my bicycle was loaded up with camping gear so it was pretty heavy.
On my way, I called in at many beautiful old hill towns in the Spanish countryside. The people in these places do not often meet tourists and they were very surprised when I told them that I was cycling all the way to England!
The best part of the trip was cycling through the Pyrenees mountains between Spain and France. The road went up to 1640m and I cycled through a ski resort. Because I was so hot from cycling uphill all day, I was only wearing shorts, even though there was snow all around. The skiers stopped to look at me!
